Description: This gene encodes a protein which is a member of the bromodomain-containing protein family. The product of this gene has been identified as a component of one form of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex, and as a protein which interacts with p53 and is required for p53-dependent oncogene-induced senescence which prevents tumor growth. Pseudogenes have been described on chromosomes 2, 3, 6, 13 and 14. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Description: C9orf139 (chromosome 9 open reading frame 139) is a 190 amino acid protein encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 9q34.3. Chromosome 9 consists of about 145 million bases, represents 4% of the human genome and encodes nearly 900 genes. Thought to play a role in gender determination, deletion of the distal portion of 9p can lead to development of male to female sex reversal, the phenotype of a female with a male X,Y genotype. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is characterised by harmful vascular defects, is associated with the chromosome 9 gene encoding endoglin protein, ENG. Familial dysautonomia is also associated with chromosome 9 though through the gene IKBKAP. Notably, chromosome 9 encompasses the largest interferon family gene cluster. Chromosome 9 is partnered with chromosome 22 in the translocation leading to the aberrant production of BCR-ABL fusion protein often found in leukemias.

Description: TSLPR is a type I membrane receptor that forms a functional heterodimeric complex with IL7R to bind TSLP. The TSLP R contains a WSXWS motif required for proper protein folding and a box1 motif important for association with the JAKs. TSLPR has a predicted molecular weight approximately 41 kD, and two further isoforms have been reported that are produced by alternative splicing. The TSLPR is expressed preferentially in myeloid cells including dendritic cells and activated monocytes, and is weakly expressed in T cells. Expression has also been reported in heart, skeletal muscle, and kidney tissues. TSLP binding to the heterodimeric functional receptor (TSLPR and IL7R) activates JAK2, STAT3 and STAT5 to stimulate cell proliferation. Ligand receptor interactions haves been implicated in the development of the hematopoietic system, dendritic cell maturation, and the maintenance and polarization of human Th2 memory T cells in allergic diseases.

Description: The Fos gene family consists of 4 members: FOS, FOSB, FOSL1, and FOSL2. These genes encode leucine zipper proteins that can dimerize with proteins of the JUN family, thereby forming the transcription factor complex AP-1. As such, the FOS proteins have been implicated as regulators of cell proliferation, differentiation, and transformation. [provided by RefSeq].

Description: In eukaryotes, the phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins on serine and threonine residues is an essential means of regulating a broad range of cellular functions including division, homeostasis and apoptosis. A group of proteins that are intimately involved in this process are the protein phosphatases. In general, the protein phosphatase (PP) holoenzyme is a trimeric complex composed of a regulatory subunit, a variable subunit and a catalytic subunit. Four major families of protein phosphatase catalytic subunit have been identified, designated PP1, PP2A, PP2B and PP2C. An additional protein phosphatase catalytic subunit, PPX (also known as PP4), is a putative member of a novel PP family. The PP2B family comprises subfamily members PP2B-A alpha, PP2B-A Beta and PP2B-A Gamma. Two additional regulatory subunits been identified, designated PP2B-B1 and PP2B-B2.

Description: Neuropeptides are regulators of synaptic transmission and their effects are mediated by G-protein coupled receptors. NPS (Neuropeptide S) is a 20 amino acid peptide cleaved from a larger precursor that contains a hydrophobic signal peptide and proteolytic cleavage processing sites. The N-terminal residue of NPS is always a serine regardless of the species. NPS is predominantly found in the central nervous system and plays an important role regulating sleep/wake functions, locomotion, arousal/anxiety responses and food intake. NPS functions by binding and activating its receptor, NPSR, and increasing intracellular calcium levels thereby acting as an excitatory transmitter. In addition, NPS stimulates the hypothalamo-pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis via the release of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and arginine vasopressin (AVP). NPS and its receptor NPSR may also play a role in asthma pathogenesis.

Supplier: Bioss
Description: Histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates 'Lys-4' of histone H3. H3 'Lys-4' methylation represents a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation. Plays a central role in the transcriptional activation of genes such as collagenase or insulin. Recruited by IPF1/PDX-1 to the insulin promoter, leading to activate transcription. Has also methyltransferase activity toward non-histone proteins such as p53/TP53, TAF10, and possibly TAF7 by recognizing and binding the [KR]-[STA]-K in substrate proteins. Monomethylates 'Lys-189' of TAF10, leading to increase the affinity of TAF10 for RNA polymerase II. Monomethylates 'Lys-372' of p53/TP53, stabilizing p53/TP53 and increasing p53/TP53-mediated transcriptional activation. Also able to demethylated 'Lys-372' of p53/TP53 in vitro.

Description: The protein encoded by this gene is part of a complex of proteins that constitute adherens junctions (AJs). AJs are necessary for the creation and maintenance of epithelial cell layers by regulating cell growth and adhesion between cells. The encoded protein also anchors the actin cytoskeleton and may be responsible for transmitting the contact inhibition signal that causes cells to stop dividing once the epithelial sheet is complete. Finally, this protein binds to the product of the APC gene, which is mutated in adenomatous polyposis of the colon. Mutations in this gene are a cause of colorectal cancer (CRC), pilomatrixoma (PTR), medulloblastoma (MDB), and ovarian cancer. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009].
