GGPS1 is localised in the cytoplasm and has geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP) synthase activity. It catalyses the trans-addition of the three molecules of IPP onto DMAPP to form geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate, an important precursor of carotenoids and geranylated proteins.
