Endothelial cell migration is inhibited by SERPINF1/ PEDF. PEDF / SERPINF1 suppresses retinal neovascularization and endothelial cell proliferation. PEDF is also responsible for apoptosis of endothelial cells either through the p38 MAPK pathway or through the FAS/FASL pathway. PEDF also displays neurotrophic functions.

Description: Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO) is a heme-containing dioxygenase catalyzing the addition of molecular oxygen across the 2,3-double bond of the indole ring of tryptophan to form N-formylkynurenine (NFK). In Anopheles gambiae, TDO is the only enzyme able to catalyze the first and rate-limiting step in L-Trp catabolism through the kynurenine pathway. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid for protein synthesis and also the precursor for production of a number of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and melatonin; in mosquitoes, the kynurenine pathway is essential for eye pigmentation. Conceivably, the tryptophan-using pathways should be regulated in a coordinated manner in mosquitoes as well as in other species and TDO activation/inactivation processes could play an essential role in these phenomena.

Description: Tyrosinase is an oxidase that is the rate-limiting enzyme for controlling the production of melanin. It is mainly involved in two distinct reactions of melanin synthesis; firstly, the hydroxylation of a monophenol and secondly, the conversion of an o-diphenol to the corresponding o-quinone. o-Quinone undergoes several reactions to eventually form melanin. Tyrosinase is a copper-containing enzyme present in plant and animal tissues that catalyses the production of melanin and other pigments from tyrosine by oxidation, as in the blackening of a peeled or sliced potato exposed to air. It is found inside melanosomes which are synthesised in the skin melanocytes. In humans, the tyrosinase enzyme is encoded by the TYR gene. [Wiki].

PEDF is one of the most abundant proteins released by adipocytes and induces insulin resistance in adipocytes and human skeletal muscle cells.
