Supplier: Bioss
Description: The RING finger motif is a specialized DNA-binding zinc finger domain found in many transcriptional regulatory proteins. The ring finger protein (RNF) family includes any protein containing the signature RING finger motif. RNF8 is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear RING finger protein that acts as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase. It is required for the ubiquitination of some nuclear proteins and promotes their subsequent degradation. The heterodimeric ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme UBC13 interacts with RNF8, and they co-localize in the nucleus. RNF8 may regulate mediation of UBC13 polyubiquitylation by elongating the ubiquitin chains. RNF8 also binds to Retinoid X receptor alpha (RXR?, a member of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. It increases RXR?mediated transactivation of the RXR?responsive element (RXRE) promoter in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting that RNF8 is a regulator of RXR?mediated transcriptional activity.

Description: The U-box domain is a modified RING finger motif that has been implicated in the ubiquitin/proteasome system. The ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme 7-interacting protein 5 (UIP5), also designated U-box domain-containing protein 5 or RING finger protein 37, contains 1 RING-type zinc finger and 1 U-box domain. UIP5 has been shown to interact with UBCH7, an enzyme that mediates selective degradation of abnormal proteins. The gene encoding UIP5 maps to chromosome 20, which houses over 600 genes, some of which are associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, ring chromosome 20 epilepsy syndrome and Alagille syndrome. Additionally, chromosome 20 contains a region with numerous genes which are thought important for seminal production and may be potential targets for male contraception.

Description: The RING-type zinc finger motif is present in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins and is made of a conserved cysteine-rich domain that is able to bind two zinc atoms. Proteins that contain this conserved domain are generally involved in protein-protein interactions and protein-DNA interactions. Specifically, they are thought to be involved in the ubiquitination pathway of protein degradation. RNF165 (RING finger protein 165) is a 346 amino acid protein that contains one RING-type zinc finger. Via its RING-type zinc finger, RNF165 may play a role in transcriptional regulation and protein degradation events. The gene encoding RNF165 maps to human chromosome 18, which houses over 300 genes, including Trisomy 18, or Edwards syndrome, the second most common trisomy after Downs syndrome. Translocation between chromosome 18 and 14 is the most common translocation in cancers, and occurs in follicular lymphomas. Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia and erythropoietic protoporphyria are also associated with chromosome 18.

Supplier: Bioss
Description: This gene belongs to the RING finger family, members of which encode proteins characterized by a RING domain, a zinc-binding motif related to the zinc finger domain. The gene product can bind DNA and can act as a transcriptional repressor. It is associated with the multimeric polycomb group protein complex. The gene product interacts with the polycomb group proteins BMI1, EDR1, and CBX4, and colocalizes with these proteins in large nuclear domains. It interacts with the CBX4 protein via its glycine-rich C-terminal domain. The gene maps to the HLA class II region, where it is contiguous with the RING finger genes FABGL and HKE4.

Description: The RING-type zinc finger motif is present in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins and is made of a conserved cysteine-rich domain that is able to bind two zinc atoms. Proteins that contain this conserved domain are generally involved in the ubiquitination pathway of protein degradation. SH3RF2 (SH3 domain containing ring finger 2), also known as RNF158, is a 729 amino acid protein with one RING-type zinc finger domain and three SH3 domains. Via its RING-type zinc finger domain, SH3RF2 binds an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme. This suggests that SH3RF2 functions as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that accepts a ubiquitin residue from an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme and immediately transfers that residue to a protein that is targeted for degradation. Due to alternative splicing events, SH3RF2 is expressed as two different isoforms.

Description: Ubiquitination is an important mechanism through which three classes of enzymes act in concert to target short-lived or abnormal proteins for destruction. The three classes of enzymes involved in ubiquitination are the ubiquitin-activating enzymes (E1s), the ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s) and the ubiquitin-protein ligases (E3s). RNF25 (RING finger protein 25), also known as AO7, is a 459 amino acid protein that contains one RWD domain and one RING-type zinc finger. Via its RING-type zinc finger (a common domain that contains a conserved cysteine-rich region and is found in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins), RNF25 is thought to exhibit E2-dependent E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity. Specifically, the RING finger of RNF25 interacts with an E2 ligase and, through this interaction, facilitates the ubiquitination of target proteins. RNF25 may also regulate the transcriptional activity of NF-kappa-B, a protein that plays important roles in cell survival, inflammation response, host defense and proliferation.
