Description: Carbocyanine dyes with long hydrocarbon chains have low fluorescence in aqueous phase, but become highly fluorescent upon binding to lipid bilayers, making this class of dyes ideal for staining cell membranes. Carbocyanine dye membrane staining is very stable, with minimal dye transfer between cells. Dilinoleyl carbocynaine dyes have much faster lateral diffusion rates than regular carbocyanine dyes, which facilitates labelling of neurons in tissues.

Description: Ionomycin is commonly used to modify intracellular calcium concentrations and to calibrate fluorescent calcium indicators. It is also known for its antiproliferative effects.

Description: The fluorescence of NBD is highly dependent on the environment; it is virtually nonfluorescent in water but becomes strongly green fluorescent in hydrophobic media. NBD-ethylenediamine can be readily coupled to activated carboxy groups or sulfonyl chlorides.

Description: DODC (DiOC2(5)) has been reported to bind to triplex DNA as well as dimeric hairpin quadruplex DNA. Binding of the dye to triplex DNA quenches the fluorescence of the dye and red-shifts the dye absorption peak.

Description: BAPTA and its derivatives are calcium chelators that are commonly used to form calcium buffers with well-defined calcium concentrations. By injecting the chelators into cells or by incubating cells with the AM ester form of the chelators, one can control the cytosolic calcium concentration, an important means to study the roles of calcium. Key advantages of these calcium chelators include relative insensitivity toward intracellular pH change and fast release of calcium.

Description: Cell proliferation dyes diffuse passively into cells and covalently label intracellular proteins, resulting in long term cell labelling. They are non-fluorescent until they are hydrolysed by intracellular esterase's. The dyes then react with intracellular amines forming fluorescent conjugates that are retained in the cell. Immediately after staining, a single, bright fluorescent population will be detected by flow cytometry. With each cell division, daughter cells inherit roughly half of the fluorescent label, allowing the number of cell divisions that occur after labelling to be detected by the appearance of successively dimmer fluorescent peaks on a flow cytometry histogram compared to cells analysed immediately after staining. Staining is formaldehyde fixable.

Description: TPEN (Tetrakis-(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine) is an excellent heavy metal chelator while it does not affect Ca2 , Mg2 , Na , or K concentrations. Thus, TPEN is a useful tool to identify effects of heavy metals (Zn2 , Fe2 /Fe3 , Cu2 , and Mn2 , etc.) on fluorescent indicators of Ca2 , Mg2 , Na , or K .

Description: This antibody recognizes a glycoprotein of 75 kDa, identified as low affinity Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) Receptor (p75NGFR) or Neurotrophin Receptor (p75NTR). Its epitope spans in aa 1-160 of extracellular domain of NGFR/NTR. NGF-receptor contains an extracellular domain containing four 40-amino acid repeats with 6 cysteine residues at conserved positions followed by a serine/threonine-rich region, a single transmembrane domain, and a 155-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. The cysteine-rich region contains the nerve growth factor binding domain. NGF is important for the development, differentiation, and survival of variety of neuronal and non-neuronal cells. Its action is mediated by binding two distinct receptors, the high affinity p140 and low affinity p75.

Description: Myogenin is a member of the MyoD family of myogenic basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors that also includes MyoD, Myf-5, and MRF4 (also known as herculinor Myf-6). MyoD family members are expressed exclusively in skeletal muscle and play a key role in activating myogenesis by binding to enhancer sequences of muscle-specific genes. The regulatory domain of MyoD is approximately 70 amino acids in length and includes both a basic DNA binding motif and a bHLH dimerization motif. MyoD family members share about 80% amino acid homology in their bHLH motifs. Anti-myogenin labels the nuclei of myoblasts in developing muscle tissue, and is expressed in tumor cell nuclei of rhabdomyosarcoma and some leiomyosarcomas. Positive nuclear staining may occur in Wilms' tumor.

Description: Recognizes a protein of 55 kDa, identified as CD14 (also known lipopolysaccharide receptor). CD14 is expressed strongly on monocytes and macrophage and weakly on the surface of neutrophils. CD14 is anchored to cells by linkage to glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) and functions as a high affinity receptor for complexes of LPS and LPS binding protein (LBP). Soluble CD14, also binding to LPS, acts at physiological concentration as an LPS agonist and has, at higher concentrations, an LPS antagonizing effect in cell activation.
