Description: SLC27A4 is involved in translocation of long-chain fatty acids (LFCA) across the plasma membrane. It appears to be the principal fatty acid transporter in small intestinal enterocytes. SLC27A4 plays a role in the formation of the epidermal barrier. It is required for fat absorption in early embryogenesis. SLC27A4 has acyl-CoA ligase activity for long-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids.

Description: TOCA-1 Antibody: Actin reorganization is important for the regulation of neuronal morphology. A protein involved in this process, the transducer of cdc42-dependent actin assembly 1 (TOCA-1) protein, a member of the evolutionarily conserved pombe CDC15 homology (PCH) protein family, is an essential component of the Cdc42 pathway. TOCA-1 binds both N-WASP and Cdc42 and is essential for Cdc42- and PIP2-induced actin polymerization, suggesting that TOCA-1 mediates Cdc42-dependent actin nucleation by activating the N-WASP-WIP complex. Decreased expression of TOCA-1 significantly enhances neurite elongation in PC-12 cells; its overexpression in the same cells suppresses neurite elongation. It has been suggested that TOCA-1 negatively regulates axon branching by regulating membrane trafficking by regulating membrane trafficking through the F-BAR/EFC domain. Multiple isoforms of TOCA-1 are known to exist.

Description: Grik2 Antibody: Glutamate receptors are the predominant excitatory neurotransmitter receptors in the mammalian brain and are activated in a variety of normal neurophysiologic processes. Grik2, also known as glutamate receptor 6, belongs to the kainate family of glutamate receptors, which are composed of four subunits and function as ligand-activated ion channels. Recent reports have suggested that defects in the Grik2 protein may be associated with autosomal recessive mental retardation and possibly other neurological disorders such as schizophrenia. Numerous isoforms of Grik2 are known to exist and may be subject to RNA editing within the second transmembrane domain, which is thought to alter the properties of ion flow. This Grik2 antibody may exhibit some cross-reactivity to Grik3.

Description: Nhe-1 Antibody: The Na+/H+ antiporter (Nhe-1) is a ubiquitous membrane-bound enzyme involved in pH regulation of vertebrate cells and is specifically inhibited by the diuretic drug amiloride and activated by a variety of signals including growth factors, mitogens, neurotransmitters, and tumor promoters. Nhe-1 acts as an anchor for actin filaments to control the integrity of the cortical cytoskeleton. This occurs through a previously unrecognized structural link between Nhe-1 and the actin-binding proteins ezrin, radixin, and moesin, collectively referred to as ERM proteins. A structural role for Nhe-1 has been proposed in regulating the cortical cytoskeleton that is independent of its function as an ion exchanger. It is also thought that Nhe-1 play a role in hypertension. At least two isoforms of Nhe-1 are known to exist.

Description: Grik4 Antibody: Grik4 codes for the KA1 subunit of kainate-type ionotropic glutamate receptors which are critical regulators of network activity that act by modifying neuronal excitability, directly and indirectly, through GABAergic interneurons. Five subunits can assemble to form kainate receptors (KARs): GluR5 (coded by Grik1), GluR6 (coded by Grik2), and GluR7 (coded by Grik3) are the low-affinity subunits, and KA1 and KA2 are the high-affinity subunits. In the adult brain, KARs are located pre- and postsynaptically on pyramidal cells and on interneurons. Kainate receptors on GABA-containing interneurons enhance GABA release and thereby downregulate glutamatergic signaling. KARs have been implicated in numerous psychiatric disorders. Case control studies show significant association of Grik4 with both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Description: ATP2B3 gene belongs to the family of P-type primary ion transport ATPases characterized by the formation of an aspartyl phosphate intermediate during the reaction cycle. These enzymes remove bivalent calcium ions from eukaryotic cells against very large concentration gradients and play a critical role in intracellular calcium homeostasis. The mammalian plasma membrane calcium ATPase isoforms are encoded by at least four separate genes and the diversity of these enzymes is further increased by alternative splicing of transcripts. The expression of different isoforms and splice variants is regulated in a developmental, tissue- and cell type-specific manner, suggesting that these pumps are functionally adapted to the physiological needs of particular cells and tissues. Description: SIN3B acts as a transcriptional repressor. It interacts with MXI1 to repress MYC responsive genes and antagonize MYC oncogenic activities. It also interacts with MAD-MAX heterodimers by binding to MAD. The heterodimer then represses transcription by tethering SIN3B to DNA. SIN3B also forms a complex with FOXK1 which represses transcription.

Description: Caspase-9 Antibody: Apoptosis is related to many diseases and induced by a family of cell death receptors and their ligands. Cell death signals are transduced by death domain containing adapter molecules and members of the caspase family of proteases. A novel member in the caspase family was recently identified and designated ICE-LAP6, Mch6, and Apaf-3. Caspase-9 and Apaf-1 bind to each other, which leads to caspase-9 activation. Caspase-9 is also activated by granzyme B and CPP32. Activated caspase-9 cleaves and activates caspase-3 that is one of the key proteases, being responsible for the proteolytic cleavage of many key proteins in apoptosis. Caspase-9 play a central role in cell death induced by a wide variety of apoptosis activators including TNF alpha , TRAIL, anti-CD-95, FADD, and TRADD. Caspase-9 is expressed in a variety of human tissues.

Description: STAT3 is a member of the STAT protein family. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by the receptor associated kinases, and then form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the cell nucleus where they act as transcription activators. STAT3 is activated through phosphorylation in response to various cytokines and growth factors including IFNs, EGF, IL5, IL6, HGF, LIF and BMP2. It mediates the expression of a variety of genes in response to cell stimuli, and thus plays a key role in many cellular processes such as cell growth and apoptosis. The small GTPase Rac1 has been shown to bind and regulate the activity of this protein.
